This is our exclusive LED upgrade for the original Hornby Advanced Passenger Train. The loco was released in 1980 as a train set R543, or later in 1981 as the train on it's own as R794. Both are identical and this kit is suitable for either.

The original loco had bulb illumination. Our kit provides an easy upgrade to LED lighting for both ends and provides correct direction red/white lighting for either DC or DCC modes.

Supplied as a kit comprising two pre-assembled boards For DC use simply unclip the tops of the loco's. Identify the wiring, remove the bulbs and solder these boards into place.

Provides correct directional lighting and works with either DC and DCC. Note for DCC use you'll need THREE decoders, one in either end to control the LED lights, and a third in the middle powered car to operate the motor.

In DC mode you'll find the LED's come on at full brightness at a much lower speed and do not change brightness.

Full easy-to-follow instructions supplied including fitting the three DCC decoders.

Two versions available. Traditional warm white and modern cool white. If replicating the look of the original 1980's locomotive, we recommend the warm white version.

Please see the photographs and ensure you have the correct model APT. Hornby have only manufactured two versions, the original from the 1980's and a newer one released in 2020. Our kit is for the original version only.
